Islam is the world's second largest religious tradition, about 25% of the believing world. Muslims regard Muhammad (c.570-630) as a Prophet, a Messenger of God. Their sacred text is the Qu'ran. The FIVE PILLARS of Islam are: (1) Shahada or the Affirmation that There is no God, but Allah and Muhammad is his Messenger, (2) Salaat or the 5 Daily Prayers, (3) Zakaht or almsgiving, sharing with the poor, widows and orphans, (4)Sawm or observing the fast during the month of Ramadan, (4) Hajj or Pilgrimage to Mecca. The main Muslim traditions are Sunni, Shi'a, and Sufi.
